Mapping Manhattan
Maps are more about their makers than the places they describe. Map who you are. Map where you are. Fill the map with a story or paint your favorite cup of coffee. Map the invisible. Map the obvious. Map your memories.
In 2009, I walked the length of Broadway asking strangers to fill out blank maps of Manhattan island with their representations of the place. This book, inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, is a collection of their maps, plus ones by notable New Yorkers including Yoko Ono, David Chang, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Mapping Manhattan: A Love (and Sometimes Hate) Story in Maps by 75 New Yorkers, on sale now online and in many bookstores.
